L'avventura del rientro a Perth comincia - My return to Perth starts now

Oggi è cominciata la mia avventura per il rientro a Perth. Dopo la cancellazione da parte della Qatar del mio unico volo business che abbia mai prenotato in vita mia costato un occhio della testa, ho trovato questa alternativa di volare da Atene con un volo low cost della compagnia Scoot di proprietà della Singapore Airlines.

Primo viaggio ad Atene effettuato con ITA con un vecchio aereo ancora brandizzato Alitalia. Tutto filato liscio per ora anche se i patemi d'animo dell'ultimo minuto non sono mancati. Mia sorella ritarda 40 min all'appuntamento per accompagnarmi a Fiumicino, ma la guida sicura e veloce di mio cognato mi fa arrivare in tempo per il primo check in dove però manca il PLF. Eh si, pare che dovevo compilare un modulo on line chiamato Passenger Locator Form (PLF). Per fortuna faccio tutto tramite cellulare e con molto nervosismo ottengo il pdf con il plf...bel gioco di parole eh!

Il primo volo è andato tranquillo e veloce. Velocissimo è stato anche il ritiro del bagaglio. Ho dovuto aspettare un po' che aprissero il check-in della Scoot ma alla fine ho ottenuto le agognate carte di imbarco per Singapore e Perth, solo dopo aver mostrato; certificato vaccinale, tampone negativo, Australian travel declaration form, passaporto... Colonscopia, elettro e eco cardio gramma, radiografia ai polmoni... Vabbe le ultime sono scherzi ma era tanto per far capire che oggi per viaggiare ti devi portare quintali di carta o file nel cell da mostrare.

Ancora non ci credo fino in fondo che potrò arrivare a Perth. Tengo le dita incrociate.

Today my adventure for the return to Perth has begun. After Qatar cancelled my only business flight that I have ever booked in my life, I found this alternative of flying from Athens on a low cost flight with Scoot, a company owned by Singapore Airlines.

First trip to Athens was made with ITA with an old plane with the old Alitalia brand. Everything went smoothly for now, even if last-minute worries were not lacking. My sister was 40 minutes late for her appointment to accompany me to Fiumicino airport, but my brother-in-law's safe and fast driving made me arrive in time for the first check-in where, however, there was no PLF. Oh yes, apparently I had to fill out an online form called Passenger Locator Form (PLF). Luckily I did everything via my mobile phone and with a lot of nervousness I got the pdf with the plf ... nice play on words eh!

The first flight went smooth and fast. The baggage claim was also very fast. I had to wait a while for the Scoot check-in to open but in the end I got the coveted boarding passes for Singapore and Perth, only after showing up: vaccination certificate, negative swab, Australian travel declaration form, passport ... Colonoscopy, ECG, lung x-ray ... Okay, the latest are jokes but it was just to make it clear that today to travel you have to bring tons of paper or files in the cell to show.

I still don't fully believe that I will be able to get to Perth. I keep my fingers crossed.

The adventure starts tomorrow

less than 24 days before my adventure starts and I have mixed feelings: excited for the new experience and worried at the same time. Every time I go out with the bike, even for a short ride, the thought that I cannot make it is always there. However, on this occasion, it is not just the fear of physical exhaustion, but thinking about where to find food, water and if I will be able to rest properly while camping outdoors. I will share my journey with two friends, Richard and Waeel. We trained together and hopefully we will be able to enjoy every bit of it. In the picture I depicted the track of my first day. It's classic, not plastic

This Fondriest bike has been my loyal companion for more than 21 years. I nicknamed it 'giallorossa' for its colours (it means 'red and yellow' in Italian) which are also the colours of my favourite soccer team, AS Roma. This bike is now in Italy and I keep using it during my summer holidays over there. It is still a great bike and I changed just a few components from the day I bought it. I used it in Italy, UK and Australia before I purchased a new Trek bike. It never deceived me and it has been a very reliable bike so far. It is not for sure the best bike of its time but I have such a particular attachment to this piece of metal that reminds me my youth when I had no responsibilities. It is classic because is made of steel and it does not share anything with the fancy bikes you can find today.
