5o giorno di quarantena - Day 5 of quarantine

E' quasi giunta la fine del quinto giorno di quarantena ed e' anche finita la settimana lavorativa. Durante questi giorni il lavoro e' stato un'ottima maniera per tenermi impegnato e mi ha dato la possibilita' di riconnettermi con l'esterno.

Ho avuto anche qualche piacevole chiamata telefonica dagli amici di qui e mi ha fatto molto piacere. Ho anche cominciato un blando programma di allenamento con la bici ed i rulli che mia ha portato mia moglie da casa. Devo ringraziare la mia amica Megan per avermi prestato l'attrezzatura dei rulli. Con questo esercizio cerco di tenermi in forma e passare almeno una mezz'oretta durante la giornata.

 

L'hotel non e' male anche se dopo i primi 3 giorni tutto ti sembra uguale e noioso. Al riguardo della sicurezza devo dire che gli impeigati dell'albergo seguono certamente pedissequamente le policy a loro imposte, ma penso che questo albergo non sia per nulla adeguato ad ospitare viaggiatori in quarantena. Da quel poco che ho potuto osservare con il mio unico impatto con l'esterno il giorno del mio arrivo ho tratto le seguenti conclusioni:

1) l'hotel e' in centro citta dove la densita' di popolazione e' piu' alta ma doprattutto e' il centro degli affari della citta' con gli uffici di tutte le aziende piu importanti. Se ne deduce quasi facilemente che se ci fosse una fuga del virus la diffusione sarebbe immediata.

2) non mi sembra che l'hotel sia dotato di due entrate. Almeno a noi che venivamo dall'estero ci hanno fatto entrare dallo stesso ingresso di tutte le altre persone ossia da quello principale dell'albergo dove anche altri ospiti (se mai ce ne fossero) che non stanno in quarantena, entrano normalente. In aggiunta anche le persone che fanno le consegne e tutto il personale dell'hotel entrano dallo stesso ingresso. Davanti all'atrio dell'albergo circolano liberamente anche tantissime persone. Inoltre accanto all'ingresso principale c'e' un pub/ristorante. A dire la verita', non ho fatto caso se fosse aperto o meno. Mi sembra scandaloso che non sia stata prevista una entrata secondaria per noi che venivamo dall'estero. L'ingresso durante le operazioni di accoglienza dei viaggiatori dall'estero e' transennato e sorvergliato da personale di sicurezza. C'e' anche un altro cordone di polizia che protegge dal passaggio dei pedoni bloccando almeno un raggio di una decina di metri dall'ingresso durante la discesa dal bus che ci ha portati dall'aeroporto.

Benche le misure di sicurezza adottate riescono a mitigare i rischi mi domando perche non sia stato scelto un hotel con meno problemi logistici. E le misure di sicurezza secondo me possono essere soggette ad errori umani inevitabili.

It is almost the end of the fifth day of quarantine and the working week is also over. During these days the work has been a great way to keep me busy and has given me the opportunity to reconnect with the outside world.

I also had some nice phone calls from friends here and I was delighted for that. I also started a mild training program with the bike and the bike trainer that my wife brought from home. I have to thank my friend Megan for lending me the bike trainer equipment. With this exercise I try to keep fit and spend at least half an hour during the day.

The hotel is not bad even if after the first 3 days everything seems the same and boring. Regarding safety, I must say that the hotel employees certainly follow the policies imposed on them quite strictly, but I think that this hotel is in no way adequate to accommodate travelers in quarantine. On the basis of what I have been able to observe with my only impact with the outside on the day of my arrival, I have drawn the following conclusions:

1) the hotel is in the city center where the population density is higher but, above all, it is the business center of the city with the offices of all the most important companies. It is quite easy to deduce that if the virus escaped, it would spread immediately.

2) I don't think the hotel has two entrances. At least when I arrived, they made me enter from the same entrance as all the other people, i.e. from the main one of the hotel where other guests (if ever there are any) who are not in quarantine, also enter normally. In addition the people who make deliveries and all the hotel staff also have access to the same entrance. Many people also circulate freely in front of the hotel lobby. Next to the main entrance there is a pub / restaurant. To tell you the truth, I didn't notice if it was open or not. In any case, it seems scandalous to me that no secondary entry was used for us who came from abroad. The entrance during the reception of the travelers from abroad is cordoned off and guarded by security personnel. There is also another police cordon that protects from the passage of pedestrians by blocking at least a radius of about ten meters from the entrance when getting off the bus that took us from the airport.

Although the security measures adopted manage to mitigate the risks, I wonder why a hotel with fewer logistical problems was not chosen. Security measures in my opinion can be subject to inevitable human errors too.
