Penguin Island

Ciao a tutti
eccomi ancora a descrivere una nuova fantastica avventura in mezzo
alla natura dell'Australia. Penguin Island e' un simpatico isolotto a
700 m dalla costa nei pressi di Rockingham. La bassa marea e i bassi
fondali rendono anche praticabile l'attreversamento dell'oceano a
piedi per i piu' coraggiosi. Tuttavia mi sono affidato al traghetto :)
Isola non e' grandissima ma c'è una enorme varietà di animali. La
prima cosa che ci ha stupito è la grande quantità di uccelli,
soprattutto gabbiani che emettono un verso veramente fastidioso. Ma la
cosa che ci ha colpito è che in questa isola hanno fatto casa per il
loro nido un folto gruppo di bellissimi pellicani. A detta della guida
uno dei pochi nidi nel Western Australia.
Siamo poi andati in giro con una barca e abbiamo fatto il giro di
alcuni isolotti piu' piccoli nelle vicinanze e a nostra sopresa
abbiamo visto dei bellissimi leoni marini. A detta della guida passano
tutto il loro tempo a mangiare e a dormire .... beati loro !
Ed infine la visita ai pinguini nel discovery centre dell'isola era
d'obbligo. Veramente molto carini !

Insomma non solo pinguini ma tanta natura !

Dear friends
here we are for another fantastic adventure in the middle of the
Australian nature. Penguin Island is a small island, 700 m from the
coast of Rockingham. The low tide and the shallow water make the
crossing of the ocean possible for braver people. However I decided to
take the boat :)
The island is not big at all, but there is a great variety of animals
in there. The first thing I noticed was the great multitude of birds.
Most of them are gulls which verse is very noisy. A great group of
pelicans made home here for nesting. The guide told us that the island
is one the few sites where the pelicans go for nesting in WA.
We took the boat again for a short cruise around some very small
islands in the vicinity of Penguin Island. It was really astonishing
to see some sea lions resting on a beach. The guide told us that they
spend most of their life eating and sleeping.... Lucky them !
At the end we spent some time with the penguins ... They are so cute and nice !

In conclusion it was great to go there ..... Not only penguins !
