Serpentine Falls

Oggi scampagnata fuori porta presso le Serpetine Falls. Si tratta di
cascate d'acqua originalmente naturali e ora regolate dalla presenza
di una diga piu' a monte. Il posto si trova a poco meno di un'ora da
Perth e ne vale davvero la pena. Oltre al magnifico paesaggio abbiamo
trovato tantissimo cangurotti che ormai paiono davvero abituati alla
presenza dell'uomo tanto da andare ad elemosinare un po' di cibo allo
stesso modo dell'orso Yoghi nel celebre cartone animato con tanto di
Ranger che sorveglia tutta l'area naturalistica.
Siamo poi andati a vedere la diga. Una piccola diga in terra nulla a
confronto delle nostre dighe alpine ad arco fiore all'occhiello
dell'ingegneria idraulica italiana, ma tutto sommato mi fa sempre
piacere imbattermi in queste opere d'arte che trasformano un ambiente
con un lavandino di un bagno con tanto di scarico di fondo e sfioro
"troppo pieno" :)

Davvero una bella gita e clima favorevole dopo tanto penare con il
caldo degli ultimi tempi

I have just come back from a very nice day trip at the Serpentine
Falls. They were natural falls and now they are regulated by an
upstream dam, The place is very close to perth, just one hour driving
and it is worth to visit it. The nature is simply beautiful and we
have also found a lot of small kangaroos which seem used to the
presence of humans so that they try to beg some food from people like
the famous cartoon bear Yoghi.
We went to see the dam. It is a small soil dam and the reservoir is
used for potable water suppling Rockingham and Perth (I guess). It is
not comparable with the Italian alpine dams that represent the best in
terms of hydraulic engineering, but I always love to come across with
such works which transform the environment in a big "bath sink" :)

It has been a very beautiful trip and I hope to see similar places in the future
