U11 junior rides in the South Perth area

In the past weeks I organised some slow pace rides with my daughter (10 years old) who is enjoying them very much. Our rides range between 15 to 35 km with an average speed of 18 to 20 km/h. I was thinking of gathering interest from other children that would like riding with me and my daughter every Saturday morning at around 10.30am. I live in Como and a good spot where to meet is the Holy Family Catholic Church car park on Thelma St.

Weather permitting, we will start our rides on 20/5/2023. If you are interested please come along and make sure that any children coming are accompanied by a parent or guardian due to legal implication. Indeed this is an unsupported social ride and I do not have coaching qualification (yet).

It is obvious that this is just a personal initiative and I cannot take any responsibility in case of any injury. However, if this will be successful, I might be able to get some support from SPR.

The ride for this coming Saturday is going to be this one:

It is a short ride and the idea is to stop at Dome (Deep Water Point) for a coffee and an ice cream for the kids. We will start with a short and easy ride as a warm up. As you can see we will ride 90% of the course on a bike path. However, the bike path along the freeway is still closed, so we will probably ride along Melville Parade where we will need to pay extra attention to the traffic.

Please make sure that:

  1. you have a helmet (no helmet, no ride!),
  2. you bring a water bottle
  3. you bring the repair kit and a pump in case of a puncture, and
  4. you check your bike:

    • are the brakes working OK?
    • Are the tires inflated at the right pressure and the gears running smoothly?
    • Are your stem and bar bolts snug?

Any bike is fine for this type of rides. However, I would recommend a geared bike.

If you need any assistance with the bike of your kids (some basic mechanical assistance) or you would like me to assess the position of your children on the bike, I am happy to help during the week after work. You can leave a comment below with your details and I will contact you to schedule an appointment.

These rides are suitable for kids between 8 and 11 years old that are interested in beginning a new sport.
