Weekend around Margaret River

Ho trascorso con Criz e alcuni colleghi di lavoro un fantastico weekend dalle parti di Margaret River alla fine di Ottobre. A differenza dell'anno scorso non sono andato ad ubriacarmi girando per vigneti assaggiando vino ma mi sono dedicato alla natura questa volta.
Non sapevo che da queste parti esistessero delle bellissime grotte. La zona pare esserne piena: un paradiso per gli speleologi! Ho visitato in particolare due grotte: la prima si chiama "Lake Cave", mentre la seconda "Jewel Cave". Nelle foto vedete delle immagini di entrambe, nella prima in particolare si vedono due colonne sospese nel vuoto, mentre nella seconda si vede un particolare di Jewel Cave (la piu' grande) che viene chiamato "frozen falls".
Il giorno dopo invece sono andato fino a Cape Leeuwin dove l'Oceano Indiano si congiunge con l'Oceando del Sud.Infine un giro in barca per vedere le balene nella baia di Busselton, veramente spettacolare!


I spent a wonderful weekend in the end of October with Criz and some colleagues in the Mrgaret River region. This time I did not go for getting drunk as it happened last year when we rented a bus to go around some wineries and taste the great wines of this area, but I focussed on the nature and the beauty of this place.
I did not know that there are so many caves in this area: it should be a paradise for speleologists!
In particular I went to visit a couple of them: Lake Cave and Jewel Cave. I attached a couple of pictures for both. The first one shows two suspended columns (Lake Cave) and the second one the "frozen falls" (Jewel Cave). They are really amazing !
The day after I went to Cape Leeuwin where the Indian Ocean and the Southern Ocean merge together. In the end I spent few hours on board of a boat near Busselton where we went for whale watching ! I was really amazing we saw a lot of whales and I managed to take some decent pictures.

The adventure starts tomorrow

less than 24 days before my adventure starts and I have mixed feelings: excited for the new experience and worried at the same time. Every time I go out with the bike, even for a short ride, the thought that I cannot make it is always there. However, on this occasion, it is not just the fear of physical exhaustion, but thinking about where to find food, water and if I will be able to rest properly while camping outdoors. I will share my journey with two friends, Richard and Waeel. We trained together and hopefully we will be able to enjoy every bit of it. In the picture I depicted the track of my first day. It's classic, not plastic

This Fondriest bike has been my loyal companion for more than 21 years. I nicknamed it 'giallorossa' for its colours (it means 'red and yellow' in Italian) which are also the colours of my favourite soccer team, AS Roma. This bike is now in Italy and I keep using it during my summer holidays over there. It is still a great bike and I changed just a few components from the day I bought it. I used it in Italy, UK and Australia before I purchased a new Trek bike. It never deceived me and it has been a very reliable bike so far. It is not for sure the best bike of its time but I have such a particular attachment to this piece of metal that reminds me my youth when I had no responsibilities. It is classic because is made of steel and it does not share anything with the fancy bikes you can find today.
